Our Beliefs

At Define Church, the Bible is the foundation for everything we believe and teach. We are part of the Assemblies of God fellowship and embrace the 16 Fundamental Truths as a biblical foundation for our faith.

These truths describe what we believe about God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, salvation, the Church, and the future God has promised.

1. The Scriptures Inspired

01. THE SCRIPTURES INSPIRED

We believe the Bible, both the Old and New Testaments, is inspired by God. Scripture is God’s revelation to humanity and is our authoritative standard for faith, doctrine, and everyday life.

Scripture: 2 Timothy 3:15–17 • 1 Thessalonians 2:13 • 2 Peter 1:21

02. THE ONE TRUE GOD

We believe there is one true God, the Creator of heaven and earth and the Redeemer of humanity. He has revealed Himself as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—three distinct Persons, eternally united as one God.

Scripture: Deuteronomy 6:4 • Isaiah 43:10–11 • Matthew 28:19 • Luke 3:22

03. THE DEITY OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST

We believe Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God.

We believe in:

  • His virgin birth
  • His sinless life
  • His miracles
  • His sacrificial death on the cross
  • His bodily resurrection from the dead
  • His exaltation to the right hand of God

Jesus is fully God and fully man, our Savior and Lord.

Scripture: Matthew 1:23 • Luke 1:31–35 • Hebrews 7:26 • Acts 2:22 • 1 Corinthians 15:3–4 • Matthew 28:6 • Philippians 2:9–11

04. THE FALL OF MAN

We believe humanity was created good and in the image of God. Through humanity’s voluntary disobedience, sin entered the world, bringing both physical death and spiritual separation from God.

Every person is therefore in need of salvation.

Scripture: Genesis 1:26–27 • Genesis 2:17 • Genesis 3:6 • Romans 5:12–19

05. THE SALVATION OF MAN

We believe humanity’s only hope of salvation is through Jesus Christ.

Salvation is received by turning from sin, placing our faith in Jesus Christ, and trusting in what He accomplished through His death and resurrection. We are saved by God’s grace through faith and made new by the Holy Spirit.

The inward evidence of salvation is the witness of the Holy Spirit, while the outward evidence is a transformed life characterized by righteousness and holiness.

Scripture: Luke 24:47 • John 3:3 • Romans 10:13 • Ephesians 2:8 • Titus 3:5–7 • Romans 8:16 • Ephesians 4:24

06. THE ORDINANCES OF THE CHURCH

Water Baptism

We believe every person who repents and places their faith in Jesus should be baptized in water by immersion. Baptism publicly declares that we have identified with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus and have begun a new life in Him.

Scripture: Matthew 28:19 • Mark 16:16 • Acts 10:47–48 • Romans 6:4

Holy Communion

We believe the Lord’s Supper is a sacred reminder of Jesus’ suffering and death. Through the bread and the cup, believers remember His sacrifice and look forward to His return.

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 11:23–26 • 2 Peter 1:4

07. THE BAPTISM IN THE HOLY SPIRIT

We believe every believer should seek the baptism in the Holy Spirit.

This experience is distinct from salvation and empowers believers for Christian life, ministry, witness, and service. Through the Holy Spirit, God equips His people with spiritual gifts and greater power to fulfill His mission.

Scripture: Luke 24:49 • Acts 1:4–8 • Acts 8:12–17 • Acts 10:44–46 • 1 Corinthians 12

08. THE INITIAL PHYSICAL EVIDENCE OF THE BAPTISM IN THE HOLY SPIRIT

We believe the initial physical evidence of the baptism in the Holy Spirit is speaking in other tongues as the Holy Spirit gives the ability.

The biblical experience of speaking in tongues as evidence of Spirit baptism is related to, but distinct in purpose from, the spiritual gift of tongues described in the New Testament.

Scripture: Acts 2:4 • 1 Corinthians 12:4–10 • 1 Corinthians 12:28

09. SANCTIFICATION

We believe God calls every believer to a life of holiness.

Sanctification means being separated from sin and dedicated to God. Through our relationship with Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit, we continually grow to become more like Christ.

This is an ongoing work of God in the life of every believer.

Scripture: Romans 12:1–2 • 1 Thessalonians 5:23 • Hebrews 12:14 • 1 Peter 1:15–16 • Galatians 2:20

10. THE CHURCH AND ITS MISSION

We believe the Church is the Body of Christ, made up of every person who has placed their faith in Jesus.

God has called His Church to:

  • Share the gospel with the world
  • Worship God
  • Help believers grow into the likeness of Jesus
  • Demonstrate God’s love and compassion to people in need
  • Fulfill the Great Commission through the power of the Holy Spirit

Every believer has a place and a purpose within the Body of Christ.

Scripture: Matthew 28:19–20 • Acts 1:8 • Ephesians 1:22–23 • Ephesians 4:11–16 • 1 Corinthians 12:13 • James 1:27

11. THE MINISTRY

We believe God calls and equips people for ministry to serve and lead His Church.

Biblical ministry exists to help the Church accomplish its mission through:

  • Evangelizing the world
  • Worshiping God
  • Building and equipping believers
  • Meeting human needs through love and compassion

Scripture: Mark 16:15–20 • John 4:23–24 • Ephesians 4:11–16 • Galatians 6:10 • James 1:27

12. DIVINE HEALING

We believe divine healing is part of the gospel and that God still heals today.

Because of the work of Jesus Christ, believers can pray in faith and trust God for physical healing while recognizing Him as our healer.

Scripture: Isaiah 53:4–5 • Matthew 8:16–17 • James 5:14–16

13. THE BLESSED HOPE

We believe Jesus Christ will return for His Church.

Those who have died in Christ will be raised, and believers who are alive at His coming will be gathered together with them to meet the Lord.

The return of Jesus is the great and blessed hope of every believer.

Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 4:16–17 • Romans 8:23 • Titus 2:13 • 1 Corinthians 15:51–52

14. THE MILLENNIAL REIGN OF CHRIST

We believe Jesus Christ will visibly return to the earth with His followers and establish His reign for one thousand years.

His reign will demonstrate His perfect authority, righteousness, justice, and peace.

Scripture: Zechariah 14:5 • Matthew 24:27, 30 • Revelation 1:7 • Revelation 19:11–14 • Revelation 20:1–6

15. THE FINAL JUDGMENT

We believe there will be a final judgment.

Those who reject God’s salvation will ultimately face eternal separation from God. Scripture teaches that every person will stand before God and that eternal life is found through Jesus Christ.

Scripture: Matthew 25:46 • Mark 9:43–48 • Revelation 20:11–15 • Revelation 21:8

16. THE NEW HEAVENS AND THE NEW EARTH

We believe God has promised a new heaven and a new earth where righteousness dwells.

Those who belong to Christ will live eternally in the presence of God, where sin, suffering, and death will be no more.

This is the eternal hope of God’s people.

Scripture: 2 Peter 3:13 • Revelation 21 • Revelation 22

JESUS DEFINES EVERYTHING

These beliefs are more than statements on a page. They shape how we follow Jesus, love people, serve our community, and live out our faith.

At Define Church, we want every person to know Jesus, grow in faith, discover their God-given purpose, and live a life defined by Him.
